our dog, sydney, was masterful at getting food off of the counter. we had to push everything we set down back to the back-splash. that dog loved to eat people food & she sat in a prime spot in the kitchen so that she could get to anything that hit the floor while i was cooking. this little video shows her sneaking behind me to jump up and get a morsel of something that i forgot to push out of her reach.
eventually she even learned to open the garbage can by stepping on the peddle just enough so she could get her snout under the lid.
